This is "disturbing, appalling and extremely insensitive"!!
The fact that this took place during "Black History Month" makes it even worse!!
We all know that "Racism" is still alive and well (but) coming from a so-called upstanding College Institution makes it even worst.
Colleges & Universities are where you go to learn & get rid of ignorance & stereotypical ideas & images that have you learned or thought in the past. This completely shows that these students/fools that participated in this event have not learned one damn thing while they have been pursuing their higher education;
Because if they did:
They would have done their research to find out that the City of Compton was predominantly started by White People. Some of whom still live & reside in the City. Also they would have known that even the Ex- President Bush lived here in Compton many years ago.
I for one am very "offended" as you all should be because of it. Most of you know that I am from Birmingham, Alabama but my Family settled in Compton when I was six or seven years old and I and many family members of mine have lived in Compton, Ca. ever since.
I for one "Do Not" at all fit into their degrading stereotypes of a person living in Compton and I also know loads of other people in Compton who do not as well.
I think "what disturbs me most" is the fact that Movies always use Compton as a scapegoat (which I have never liked) and perpetuate a negative stigma of Compton and now everyone else sees it that way wants to use it as a scapegoat. I personally would never live in a City that is as horrible as the media & these foolish ignorant fools/students believe it to be.
Compton is a thriving Community with much more "GOOD" than Bad. I hope that "ONE DAY SOON" Compton will be acknowledged for "ALL THE GOOD" that it has done for it's residents. (For "one" it gave us all a good education where some of us were able to go off to Colleges/Universities and pursue the Careers that we have now.
Everybody who graduated from Schools in Compton or those who live now or lived at one time in Compton should at least have those good things (such as their education) to always say about it. Give Compton the Respect & the Credit that it is due. Enough of the bashing of Compton. There is no where on this "God's" Green Earth That Is Completely Safe or Completely Without Fault)!!
From the words of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: If you do not stand up for something; then you will fall for anything!!
"I STAND UP FOR COMPTON" & "I've Been A Proud Resident For The Last "46" YEARS"!!
"A Proud Compton Resident For Life"
