Before I even comment, my home phone # is 425-255-5511. I have a cellphone, but rarely use it when I'm home because we live on a hill with lots of trees and it's just too hard to hear. I am so happy to hear that Linda is fine. I would love to hear about Shirley, but can check with some of her classmates. The Tysons are all in their old home? Not Juanita and Floretta. I talk to Elaine Dickson and Connie Harpole on Fb. You are right, we had a unique neighborhood and it seems like so many people are still in touch. My husband lived on Bandera, just down the street from us.
That picture of Mim on the VW is with my daughter and was taken just a month or so before she died. I am on Fb under Pinky Walker-johns. Walker-Johns is my real last name.
Janette, it sounds like you are the same bubbly, funny, cute girl I remember. Even though we go through hard times, that basic spirit is still there and I get it from your posts. All of Mim's friends were just the most wonderful group of girls and I so enjoyed all the high jinx you guys would get in.
As for the sciatica, you have my full sympathy because I am at the same place. You sound like you have learned to live with it and I know how hard that is. Plus, you sound like your life is rich and full with children and grandchildren and that is a blessing. Like you, I would love to go back to the old neighborhood and have a big reunion with everybody. Maybe one day, this will happen.
Janette, your life sounds a lot like mine. I suffered two back injuries and had an operation, but still suffer from sciatica. I retired from LAUSD in 2006, but by then my husband and were living up here. I have a daughter, Shelli, who is 42 today. I know the feeling of not being able to get around due to pain. Both of my parents are dead, too. Lil Gene has two sons and a daughter, and two grandchildren. It's so funny because I was trying to remember Florence's last name and you just told me. I remember Alvin quite wellI LOL. Do you ever here anything about Linda Beckham. She and her sister Shirley lived on Blakely, too. Also Mavis Sneed. I saw Frank Wheaton at my aunt's funeral in Jan. Mim had another friend named Jarma Wheaton, no kin to Frank. I don't know if she went to Centennial, but they went to Long Beach State, together.
I haven't been to a reunion since the 90s, but the class of 60 has one every year for everyone who went to Centennial. My husband, who was in Class of '61, went last year. I'm so glad someone set up this alumni site. Oh, Janette, do you remember any girls at Centennial whose last name was Arnold? They may have been older, but one or two of them might have been in '69 or '70.
Let's keep in touch! As I told you, Deborah Wafer will be here on Monday, so I will tell her we are in touch.
Pinky
