I apologize I responded before I read all the facts. I don't apologize for my zeal for the Ten! It hurt to see what I saw on that video. I have walking problems now because of injuries I received playing football. Yet I don't regret it. It has made me aware that even though I am grateful for anyone who helps the students and athletes at Centennial , I need my butt kicked if I don't do more after getting knowing what I know now. In the words of a person who I favor, "If you don't know, Now you know."
Hello Gordon,
Maybe you did not read the e-mail message that was sent out today to all Alumni. In the e-mail Wayne Ware our "WebMaster" c/o '75 wrote telling everyone the real truth about the Centennial High School Football Team and about the situation. This is the second time that Centennial High's Football Coach Nolan have put out misinformation about the Football Team. The first time was in an L.A. Times Newspaper Article last year. We the (C.H.S.A.A.) Centennial High School Alumni Association are very upset that the Coach once again just like the first time last year did not tell the truth to the ABC 7 News Media about all the other Alumni, a Church in Compton and the Sports Organizations whom some continually have donated their time, their skills, their food, their money and "Brand New" equipment to the Football Team. This Coach continues to only portray as if he and another "Young White Person" are the only ones who have contributed to our Alma Mater Centennial High School and THAT IS A BOLD FACE LIE AND IT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE, NOT AT ALL. (Gordon, and Anyone Else Reading This: Please take a moment and read the e-mail article in your inbox) that Wayne sent out to everyone and you will find out the truth. The Centennial High School Staff and the Alumni Association plan to once again call a Meeting to meet with Football Coach Nolan to see why he continues to put only half-truths and put misinformation out to the media. For all Alumni who are reading this message "JUST REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN'T ALWAYS BELIEVE EVERYTHING THAT YOU SEE ON TV AND THAT YOU MAY HEAR REGARDING CENTENNIAL HIGH SCHOOL. I too as Gordon stated would like to encourage all Alumni to give back to the School if they can; and we the (C.H.S.A.A.) Centennial High School Alumni Association would love to see more Alumni who can do so; to come out and support and participate in the (C.H.S.A.A.) Centennial High School Alumni Association and that way not only can you give back to your Alma Mater of your time but you will always know the truth about what the Alumi Organization is doing and have done; as well as what Alumni have already done for the School ( over the past year and a half). GORDON, MAKE NO MISTAKE "CENTENNIAL HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ARE DOING SO...... MUCH MORE THAN JUST GOING TO DANCES, PICNICS, AND REUNIONS AS YOU HAVE STATED. YOU SAY THAT YOU ARE ASHAMED OF OUR ALUMNI (BUT BECAUSE I PERSONALLY KNOW THE REAL TRUTH ABOUT THE SITUATION) I AM EXTREMELY "PROUD" OF ALL OF OUR CENTENNIAL HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI THAT HAVE STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE AND WHO HAVE GIVEN BACK TO OUR "ALMA MATER" CENTENNIAL HIGH SCHOOL.
ONCE AGAIN: ALUMNI PLEASE READ THE LETTER BELOW AND PLEASE GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE POSTING. THANK YOU!!
Have a Very Blessed Day & Weekend Apaches!!
Sincerely,
Phoebe Macon Asst. Web Administrator c/o '75

Gordon, I know you didn't mean to say you are ashamed to call yourself an Apache Alumnus. I do accept your challenge though. I have sent smoke signals to two alumni with the article attached asking them to pass it on. I challenge all who read this comment to do the same or better, will find more Apaches who care. Thank you Gordon.

Congrats to the Centennial High Football Team. I saw the video On ABC Eyewitness News. I was floored. What in the heck has happen in 40 years. We had at least 50 players of Varsity, about 20 on Jr. Varsity, and so many on the B team you couldn't count them. No they have only 15 players and a kid from the Valley had to help help get them supplies. I am ashamed to call myself an Apache Alumnus. Alumni is not just going to dances, picnics and reunions, it's about doing what that kid did from the valley. I for one am going to become more active. I did not know this was going on. I challenge all of the Alumni to do the same.
CENTENNIAL ALUMNI SCORES HIS FIRST OUCH DOWN
Kevin Smith, Centennial Class of 2009, helped his college football team to a 52-24 victory over the University of Colorado, Saturday Sept. 15th.
Kevin , a sophomore wide reciever, scored his touchdown on a 22-yard reverse in the first quarter, lining up wide on the right side, he took the handoff from the another Compton ballplayer on the University of Washington team, and carried the ball around the left side, putting a BIG TEN move on a unblocked defender before outrunning the last Colorado cornerback to the end zone for the score.
'I knew I was ready for it' Smithsaid.'I just knew I had to at least beak a tackle to get me in the open field so I adjusted to the pressure and got to the open field where I wanted to be."
FROM "THE BIG TEN" TO BIG TIME PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALLS Arron Afflelo, grew up in Compton and this is where he developed his considerable atheletic skills, while playing any sport that was in season. Arron started his basketball career as a sophomore in 2002 as a sophomore on Centennial's CIF State finalist team. As a junior, he led The Big Ten to a 19-11 record winning the Bay League title and Being named the CIF Div. III Co-player of the Year. In his senior year 2004, under coach Rod Palmer. Arron led the Apaches to the Big Ten's first CIF Div. III Boys Basketball State title and was named CIF player of the year.
In 2005 Arron accepted a Scholarship to play Basketball at UCLA, among his many honors he helped his team advance to the final four of the NCAA final four and was named a consensus All American. He was the 27th overall pick in the NBA draff by the Detroit Pistons in 2007. After 2 years with Detroit he was traded to the Denver Nuggets, where he averaged 12.6 points.

It took a while for San Diego Chargers nose tackle Antonio Garay to make an impact in the NFL — when he replaced Jamal Williams at the position in 2010 and put up an impressive 5.5 sacks, those became the first 5.5 sacks of his five-year NFL career. Garay already has one more sack this season, and things are looking bright for the Boston College alum.
However, that's not why we're featuring Antonio Garay in Shutdown Corner today. The reason we're featuring Antonio Garay in Shutdown Corner today is that we are reasonably sure in guaranteeing that this is the only time you will see a 6-foot-4, 320-pound NFL defender driving a tiny convertible smart car … with the Hello Kitty logo on it.
As Garay tweeted about the car, "Yo @TakeoSpikes51 I wish I had 4 hands 2 give the Hello Kitty drop top Smart car 4 thumbs UP but 2 will do."
Four thumbs up would be most appropriate.
Lest you think that that photo was some sort of prop, and the car isn't really his, there's further photographic evidence here and here (there are many more on his YFrog account). The second photo has teammate Cam Thomas in the car as well, which, as Garay points out, puts about 665 pounds of football player in a car that looks like it won't stand that for too long.
"Not only is this dog cruisin around in a Hello Kitty drop top Im rockn my 3D shades cus its so real," Garay tweeted.
Now, who can argue with that? Garay is a man who knows how to accessorize; he also spray-paints designs into his sculpted hair (we love the look on Tim Tebow's face in the middle picture above) and recently lost a very spiffy iPhone case we would certainly miss if we lost it.
Style, thy name is Antonio Garay, and we are duly impressed.
WOW Nick, What a Great Story from 1954.
It still is nothing like the Apache Football Team, Band, Cheerleaders, Song Girls and etc. I know that you will always treasure those memories. I was a Centennette from 72-75 and I enjoyed every minute of it (so I can somewhat identify with a small part of what you are saying). I'm a Diehard "APACHE FOR LIFE"!! Thanks so much for sharing your story with us!!
