Around 1990 I wrote a book entitled '...and Sometimes I Cry'. I am going to share some of it with you, my Centennial classmates...
THE COACH
A white kid came to football practice. He was the only one that came. There weren't very many in the school. I went to Centennial High in Compton, California (GO APACHES!).
He was a pretty good player, better than me. The coach started picking on him. The kid couldn't do anything right. Finally, he started crying and ran off the field. The coach laughed at him. We were quiet, we knew how the kid felt.
The coach told us that we didn't need that little honky around here. He wasn't one of us. The coach thought we were stupid, he didn't respect us. You see; the coach was white.
We didn't win a game that season. Not a game

Thanks Lee for sharing that story with us.
It reminds me of the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
"So whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them; for this is the Law and the prophets."
(Matthew 7:12)

START ACTING LIKE IT
We as Christians recognize Christ’s sacrifice for us. We as Christians recognize God as our friend. We recognize and rejoice in God's grace. We understand and accept all these things through our faith in what we believe is the truth, the only truth.
The last line in Romans chapter 5, verse 10 reads, 'now that we are God's friends, how much more will we be saved by Christ’s life?'
I remember seeing a video on TV about this time last year. It showed a man being savagely beaten by members of the Los Angeles Police department. It showed the whole world that we as Christians still have so far to go. The violence that is still with us, the total disrespect for human life not only in our country, but throughout the world still infects our societies. It still exists within us.
God has shown us how much he loves us, and we do love God. How much longer will it take for us to love and respect each other?
We as Christians must endure because we are the hope. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us!
Romans chapter 5, verse 11:
"But that is not all; we rejoice because of what God has done through our Lord Jesus Christ, who has now made us God’s friends."
We need to start acting like God's friends!
