Hey Phoebe,
I remember those days. Girl, you were so.... popular and pretty that it really didn't matter anyway if you wore your eyeglasses or not. I also had to start wearing glasses back then but I would only put my glasses on in class for reading. I should have had them on all the time. I think not wearing them made my eyes worse because even today I can't see that well so I wear my glasses all the time. I was too scared to wear the contacts back then, I'm still scared to put things in my eyes. Thanks Phoebe for the eyeglass memory because I did not think of it or remember until you posted on here. Love you Girlfriend!
Love Ana & Tinkerbell
I remember when wearing eyeglasses was a bad thing back in the day in the late 60's, early 70's. Kids would call you four (4) eyes and you were considered a nerd and unattractive. If your glasses were thick they would call them coke bottles. Some people even will do that to people today (it's a form of bullying, it was then and it is now). Kids can be so cruel to one another.
Anyway nowadays in 2011 (30+ years later) wearing glasses is an okay thing, it's even considered popular (go figure)? People will even say that you look cute in them. Probably because more people have to wear them nowadays. It's so strange how wearing eyeglasses have changed from bad to good. They should have never been considered a bad thing in the first place (because) who would wear glasses if they did'nt have to (except maybe and actor or actress for a role that they were playing). If someone had ever told me that eyeglasses would become a 'fad' like clothing and everything else is; I probably would have never believed them.
Also now there are so many other ways to see beside eyeglasses (you have your contact lenses that you can wear, and they even have the ones where you can change your eye color, they also have lasic surgery that is available for the eyes now). I still wear my glasses when I choose to; but I also may pop in a pair of contact lenses as well, when I choose to. I love having a choice now and having a variety for my eyes and I also love changing the way I want to look on certain days (with or without glasses). LIFE IS ALL ABOUT CHOICES, I LOVE IT!!
Love and Blessings, Phoebe
Here's my photo when I was a Willowbrook Jr. High School Cheerleader my Senior Year with my back-in-the-day eyeglasses on. Now they just call them glasses!! (smile....)
I can still remember the good ole' smell of my sack lunch or my tin lunch box going to school. The heavenly smell of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or a bologna and cheese sandwich with sandwich spread, an apple or an orange, chips, cookies and whatever else that was in there. I had not eaten peanut butter with jelly until a few months ago and those smells brought back so many good memories and put a big smile on my face. Wow, those are memories that I will always treasure.
Going to Thrifty's or Clark Drugs with my Parents and getting ice cream cones or a ice cream sandwich.
Not being able to wait until Fridays to have McDonald's food for dinner at home or Pizza or KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) and popping Popcorn.
Love and Blessings, Phoebe
I remember running home after school to see the end of General Hospital right before my Mom went off to work at her Nursing job. And right after that sometimes watching the scary Dark Shadows for a few minutes with Barnabus Collins and after that watching Hobo Kelly (this was one of my favorite shows), and also Doris Day in Please Don't Eat the Daisies. I loved that song that she sang (Que Sera Sera, Whatever will be will be, the futures not ours to see, Que Sera Sera) a classic!! I also liked Nanny and the Professor because her name on the show was Phoebe Ficalilly and her song would say (Phoebe Ficalilly is a silly name) I can't remember the rest of the words though.
Later on the Brady Bunch came on and also Lost in Space with Will in it. I also remember watching the very crazy Roller Derby. Those girls were vivious to each other, knocking each other down on the skating rink.
I also remember watching so...... many westerns with my Dad like The Rifleman, Gunsmoke and Bonanza. Boy those were the Good Ole Days.
There were so many good shows that came on back then but later I longed.... to finally be able to watch and see black people on the screen like the Richard Pryor Show, the Flip Wison Show and seeing Diahann Carroll playing a nurse in Julia.
I said it before and i'll say it again, I love this Group Tawnette (great idea) YOU GO GIRL!! I'll post again when I think of more that I remember.
Love and Blessings, Phoebe
