Apaches For Life!!

Congratulations to the 2011 Apache Varsity Football Team for advancing in the CIF Champion Playoffs. After watching the channel 5 story on the state of the football program and reading the comments posted on this site, this team overcame tremendous obstacles to win enough games to get into the playoffs. I know the expense and organization in running a football program is not a simple thing to execute.

Since the Football season is over and the Basketball season is starting, I started to wonder about the Basketball program. Living in the North West which is a High School Basketball Hotbed, I noticed the local team schedule  to play in two holiday tounrnaments. I than went on line to see what Centennial's Basketball team was doing over the holidays. I might be missing something, but according to the Compton Unified School Board's expenditures The Ten is scheduled for two tournaments, one for the boys and one for the boys. Compton HS is sheduled for two boys tournaments as is Dominguez HS. The school board is alloting $2,100 for The Ten's two games, $3,431.48 for Compton HS and $4,800  for Dominguez High. Unless I am mistaken in my analysis something is wrong with this picture. While I was on the School Boards Web-site I watched a vidio of the Nov. 22nd board meeting where the funds were allocated and I saw the pledge of allegiance, a prayer, the chairman calling for comments and questions from the citizens, of which there were none and then the board went into closed session. I don't know who is looking out for The Ten, but could things like this be part of the reason the programs are is the shape they are in. What's up Apaches.

Hello Nick,

Thanks for inquiry. Two weeks ago in our Tuesday,  November 15, 2011 C.H.S.A.A. (Centennial High School Alumni Association) Meeting that same subject  that you mentioned was brought up. We the C.H.S.A.A. (Centennial High School Alumni Association) are very aware that the District has not been fairly and evenly allocating the monies that should go to each High School (on a fair basis) whether it's regarding sports or anything else that the School needs.. I don't know if you got a chance to read the C.H.S.A.A. Meeting Minutes from our last C.H.S.A.A. Meeting that Wayne Ware "WebMaster" e-mailed to everyone yesterday;  but one of our Alumni Committee Members Felice White c/o '64 who works for the District will be checking on what is going on with the District and why this is happening. Once she reports back to the C.H.S.A.A. Committee her findings and what she was able to find out; then I will post back to you on it. Also after each C.H.S.A.A. Meeting, once Wayne Ware receives the C.H.S.A.A. Meeting Minutes. from Sam Augustine c/o '57 our Recording Secretary, Wayne e-mails the Centennial High Alumni Soical Network Members as well as he posts it on the Facebook Centennial High Alumni Network Group Page and the Centennial High Alumni Profile Page; he sends the Meeting Minutes out to all Alumni to keep them aware of all that has been proposed and discussed in the C.H.S.A.A. Alumni Meetings.

Love and Blessings, Phoebe Macon Asst. Web Administrator c/o '75

Nick... great observation, excellent comment on the acheivements of the football team.  The old Apache spirit yet burns bright in you.  I share the same thought about pressing forward to basketball and the needs for the team.  As Phoebe has indicated Felicia White has volunteered to investigate the matter.  We need people such as yourself to continue to inquire and bring it to the public.  Thank you

There is something very fishy about this and i trully am lookin forwrd to what the district has to say about this matter at hand

The District will not say or do anything, until they realize the Apaches are aware and concerned about Centennial HS getting a fare cut for it's students. Some one showing up at the District Board Meeting and asking the question would be my thought.
