Trayvon Martin's family attorney Benjamin Crump said on "This Week" that the family is "in disbelief" after the jury delivered a "not guilty" verdict on Saturday night in the George Zimmerman second-degree murder trial.

"They are still in disbelief about his death and now they are in disbelief about this verdict," Crump told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos.

"They are trying to make sense of it," Crump added. "They want people to know that they're going to continue to fight for the legacy of their son, that he had every right to walk home from the 7-Eleven and not expect to be profiled and followed by a strange man. "

The case made headlines last year when Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, claimed self-defense after fatally shooting 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26, 2012 in Sanford, Florida.

Today, the Martin family attorney said it would be "intellectually dishonest" not to acknowledge the "racial undertones in this case."

"When prosecutor John Guy said if the roles were reversed, and Trayvon Martin would have followed and profiled and shot George in the heart, what would the verdict have been? And that's the question that everybody is asking," Crump said on "This Week." "That's why the whole world was watching this case to see if everybody can get equal justice, not just certain people."

This morning, Crump also reflected on the broader implications of the case.

"We do want people to know that children should be able to live on this earth, walk on this earth, and not feel that they're going to be profiled by what they wear or what ethnicity they belong to," he said. "That has to be something we have to progress from to go from here."

The trial began on June 24 and attorneys completed their closing arguments on July 12. The jury of 6 white women deliberated for just 16 hours before handing down the verdict.

Martin's family members weren't in the courtroom when the verdict was read, but reacted on Twitter Saturday night. Tracy Martin, Trayvon's father, expressed his disappointment with the verdict, tweeting, "Even though I am broken hearted my faith is unshattered I WILL ALWAYS LOVE MY BABY TRAY." Trayvon's mother, Sybrina Fulton, tweeted "Lord during my darkest hour I lean on you. You are all that I have. At the end of the day, GOD is still in control. Thank you all for your prayers and support. I will love you forever Trayvon!!! In the name of Jesus!!!"

Crump said on "This Week" that the family is considering additional legal options, including a civil lawsuit.

"They are certainly going to look at that as an option," Crump said. "They deeply want a sense of justice. They deeply don't want their son's death to be in vain."

Zimmerman, 29, exhibited little reaction in the courtroom when the verdict was announced after 10 p.m. on Saturday, shaking hands with his attorneys. He later hugged family members before he left the courthouse after being cleared of all charges.

The verdict prompted demonstrations and vigils around the country on Saturday night. It appears that most of the protests were peaceful, however there were reports of vandalism in Oakland, California and demonstrations have taken place in Los Angeles, California (on Crenshaw Bl.) and in San Diego, California.

I WISH IT WOULD RAIN!

Sunshine blue skies please go away
I know to you, it might sound strange but I wish it would rain,

'Cause so badly I wanna go outside
But everyone knows that a man ain't supposed to cry
Listen, I gotta cry 'cause crying eases the pain,
Oh yeah, people this hurt I feel inside.
Words could never explain, I just wish it would rain.

My eyes search the skies desperately for rain,
Cause rain-drops will hide my tear-drops
And no one will ever know that I'm crying,

Let it rain, let it rain.

I need rain to disguise the tears in my eyes.
Oh, let it rain.

My Prayers Go Out To The Entire Martin Family.

R.I.P. Trayvon Martin Your Death Won’t Be In Vain!

Our human rights and our civil rights have a long way to go in this country. You would think that we live in a third world country the way that our young black men are being targeted, profiled and gunned down these days. It use to be " driving while black" and now its "walking while black" (outrageous) . Injustice is just running rampant.
Respect for each other has been thrown out the window.

Trayvon Martin was shot and killed walking back to his father's home in a gated community on February 26, 2012. Trayvon Martin had every right to be where he was at that point in time. But yet he was gunned down and killed by a racist wannabe cop; a neighborhood watch captain named George Zimmerman. Zimmerman made a 911 call and was told by the 911 operator not to follow Trayvon Martin; but of course that was not good enough for George Zimmerman; he wanted blood that night and he got it. Whats even more disturbing is that the police let him go home without even arresting him as if the life that he took had no meaning whatsoever (these racist Floridian white people and whites in general care more for a dog than they do for a black male human being who has been killed). Zimmerman was only arrested weeks later and charged because the parents of Trayvon Martin. political leaders and the community insisted on it. It is outrageous that despite the witness accounts the jury refused to call many of those who said that they saw George Zimmerman attacking Trayvon as well as many witnesses stated that it was a child or youngsters voice yelling out on the audio recordings. A lot of evidence was not used during the trial (good and bad).

Our country has always been divided when it comes to race ( we're all one big melting pot and hating each other gets us nowhere); but it appeared that we all were working to make it better and we were slowly seeing changes for the better; but unfortunately at this point in time it seems as if change has been somewhat reversed and it appears that "THERE IS STILL NO JUSTICE AND THERE IS STILL NO PEACE FOR BLACK PEOPLE". But we must continue to forge ahead and we must continue to teach our children and our grandchildrenn to respect all people inspite of the way that things are right now and continue to pray for change for our country and pray for change for the better for all of us.

UNFORTUNATELY, AS LONG AS WE LIVE WE MUST NEVER STOP
FIGHTING FOR OUR CIVIL & OUR HUMAN RIGHTS & DIGNITY!!

TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!

R.I.P. TRAYVON MARTIN!!

GOD BLESS THE MARTIN FAMILY ALWAYS!!

Its so sad that whites will always justify the killings of black men and black people just like they justified slavery. They look at it as no harm done until something happens to their lily white kids. Yes we must continue the fight for justice because justice is blind. RIP Trayvon!

I was outraged over the verdict as well. Every parent out there like me who has a son should be equally outraged and

this post should be filled with posts of outrage from Apache parents because next time it could be your child. I never

understand how some black people can be seemingly complacent and non caring about a young black mans life being

taken but as soon as something happens to you or your families then you are looking for prayer.

Very sad all the way around.

R.I.P. Trayvon!

ThanksCentennial High Alumni & Big Ten '75 Wayne & Phoebe for always being on top of world & community issues with your posts and most of all for caring!!

I am confused. Why is anyone shocked by the verdict? You didn’t really expect five (5) white women plus a woman of unknown ethnicity to convict a Hispanic man with a German last name of killing a young African American man? Really?  You probably expected those white police officers to be convicted in the Rodney King case too.

When those women walked into the jury room, they had already man up their minds. Their request for transcripts and additional documentation was just a ploy. Rendering a verdict on Saturday instead f Friday made it appear that some actual thought had gone into arriving at the verdict. Pshaw! (Or B.S. whichever works for you).

If the prosecution wanted to win, they would have presented a better case. But, how can you be in court on Monday defending a young innocent unarmed Black man, then turn around on Tuesday and prosecute young Black men?  Someone would question your ethics.

This isn’t the first time (Nor will it be the last time). However, this is the case that was the most publicized. Thanks to the verdict, it will become open season to kill a Black man.
